Long Goodbye stays on strongly for Benson The Liz Doyle-trained Long Goodbye (85/40) was an impressive six-and-a-half-length winner of the Copper Coast (Ladies Pro/Am) Flat Race for rider Georgie Benson. The five-year-old son of Navigator has run well in bumpers thus far, but his performance reached another level today as he tracked the leaders throughout and came with a sweeping run in the last two furlongs and stayed on stoutly to land a first victory. Speaking after the race, trainer Liz Doyle said: "I think he has improved a bit since last year. He was very babyish and pulled a bit in his first couple of bumpers. He's not really a bumper horse, he's more of a hurdler. He goes on any kind of ground. He got a beautiful ride, she did what she was told, got wide down the back, tucked in up the straight. She's excellent." (Quotes from John O'Riordan)
