When is the Cheltenham Festival?

The Cheltenham Festival is held every year over four days in the middle of March. Cheltenham week 2026, takes place from Tuesday 10 March to Friday 13 March.

What is the Cheltenham Festival?

The Cheltenham Festival is the showpiece of the National Hunt season. It is at Cheltenham races where the very best horses, trainers and jockeys go head to head and where champions are crowned. There are 28 races in total, seven on each day, and it comprises four championship races; the Champion Hurdle, the Champion Chase, the Stayers’ Hurdle and the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Where is the Cheltenham Festival held?

Cheltenham races are held at Cheltenham Racecourse, also known as Prestbury Park. The racecourse is situated five minutes from the town centre.

How do I get to the Cheltenham Festival?

Birmingham and Bristol are the nearest airports and are easily accessible to and from Cheltenham Racecourse. Those travelling to Cheltenham races by train will need to book a ticket to Cheltenham Spa which is the nearest train station. A bus runs regularly from the train station to the racecourse. If you travel by car, you can book car parking for £15 in advance.

When does the Cheltenham Festival start?

The first race of Cheltenham 2026 kicks off at 1.20 p.m. on Tuesday 10 March. The opener is the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle which is famous for the Cheltenham ‘roar’ as the crowd goes wild at the off.

How much do tickets cost for the Cheltenham Festival?

Tickets to Gold Cup Day 2026 are nearly sold out. Tickets to the remaining three days during Cheltenham week 2026 cost anywhere between £40 and £800 depending on your chosen enclosure or hospitality package.

What is the dress code for the Cheltenham Festival?

Racegoers are advised to dress for the weather which can be unpredictable in March. Gentlemen wear a suit and ladies dress smart in hospitality or in the Club enclosure. In 2025 there was a total attendance of 218,839 over the four days, this represented a dip in attendances. Cheltenham 2026 crowds are expected to be higher.
