This appeared an average contest beforehand, with none of the five newcomers standing out on pedigree and all the money for the previously placed Dreams Forever. Dermot Weld's Dreams Forever ran his race and held every chance to the furlong pole, but could not sustain his effort as Alhaban stretched clear for a comfortable success. Albahan, was obviously fully fit for his debut as the ground was very heavy and while he is certainly above average he may not improve much for the outing. The winner is by Verglas as is the eventual runner-up Spavento. Spavento will appreciate a longer trip judged on her performance. She missed the break and was struggling in rear as the field headed into the second half of the race, but she picked up well inside the final furlong to catch the favourite for second close home.

Mister Frosty was withdrawn at the start, having turned over in the stalls, in the process, injuring rider Kevin Manning. Manning sustained a nasty knock on his left ankle.
