Expecto (7/1) gained a first win at the seventh attempt at Gowran today, landing the Kilkenny Nursery for jockey Rory Cleary, trainer Jim Bolger and his wife owner Jackie Bolger.

The Profitable-filly had previously finished third at Down Royal in September and today scored from her same 55-rating, denying well-backed La Juliana (morning 33s, returned 12/1) by a neck.

Afterwards Classic-winning jockey Cleary reported “she’s very tough and very genuine, and the step up in trip today was a help.

“I kept it simple and rode her very positively, and to be fair she was good and honest and stayed going to the line for me. She’s very versatile ground-wise.”
