Johnny Murtagh is considering a couple of options for Champers Elysees after the filly provided him with a first Group 1 success as a trainer at Leopardstown on Saturday.

The daughter of Elzaam, who cost just 28,000 euro as a yearling, has proved a revelation this season winning all four starts culminating in the Coolmore-sponsored Matron Stakes.

The Curragh trainer reports the three-year-old in great form after her recent exertions and outlined his thoughts on future targets when speaking on Paddy Power’s podcast From The Horses Mouth.

“I put her in the paddock this morning, which she’s been going into for the last number of months, and she’s running around bucking and kicking. I’m a little bit more nervous now watching her than I have been!

“Two races that we are looking at are the Sun Chariot in Newmarket, fillies only over a mile, and the Breeders’ Cup Mile. I think a mile around Keeneland would suit her really well — she’s got a good turn of foot.”

Murtagh won the Breeders’ Cup Mile 25 years ago as a jockey on the John Oxx-trained Ridgewood Pearl.
