Westerner Point, dual winner of the Tim Duggan Memorial Chase twice at Limerick, has encoutered a setback and is set to miss the Christmas action, with trainer Eoghan O’Grady looking towards a spring campaign with the veteran chaser.

The rising 11 year old has an impressive 34% strike-rate having won 12 of his 35 career starts, including two Grade B Tim Duggan Memorial Chase wins.

However trainer O'Grady reports “he got a bit of birch in his knee after his last race (a hurdle winner at Clonmel in November) and it’s knocked us back a bit.

“We are going to skip Christmas and freshen him up a bit. It will probably be February before he’s ready to run again.

“We are looking at a conditions chase in Fairyhouse on the 12th of February. We’ll make a plan from there and keep him fresh for the spring.

“He’s been a great servant and loves Limerick but is high in the handicap now.”
