Review GOWRAN PARK 25TH JAN

John Cullen enjoyed his biggest success since turning professional last summer when Bob Treacy landed the Cuisine De France sponsored Thyestes Chase in front of a huge crowd.

The 12yo gelding, also winner of this #65,000 event in 1999 and trained by octogenarian Michael Hickey, jumped superbly throughout.

He landed in front after five out, and had drawn 5L clear of fav Over The Furze when that rival fell at the last. No Problem stayed on well to take the runner-up spot ahead of Delgany Royal.

'He missed two weeks with coughing after his latest run over hurdles at Leopardstown. But he jumped great today, and that is his sixth win at this course,' said Hickey.

Pat Fahy, who trains close to the track at Leighlinbridge, and stable claimer Sean McDermott also had a day to remember when doubling up with Belle Away and Coralpha.

Belle Away headed the front-running Swiss Tune in the closing stages to score by 1 1/2L in the maiden hurdle, with the flattering Golden Row (8/13f) a further 3/4L back in third.

McDermott (18), from Tralee, also had Coralpha prominent throughout in the handicap hurdle, staying on well from two out to beat Stradbally Hall by 4 1/2L.

Lisaan (33/1, paid #269.60 on the Tote) set the trend on a tough day for punters when patiently ridden by Barry Cash to cause a big shock in the opening 4yo maiden hurdle.

The French import led on the run-in for a 1 1/2L verdict over the staying on Circus Maximus, while the well backed Vatirisk (finished 5th) held every chance in the straight.

Satcoslam followed up his recent Tramore win when leading before the last for Barry Geraghty to beat Bunratty Castle by 2L in the conditions hurdle.

One lucky jackpot punter scooped a dividend of #10,718 after Grange Leader rallied well from two out to land the 2m4f handicap chase under Barry Walsh.
