LOVE FOR ASCOT

Fruits Of Love has come out of a racecourse workout in good form and is on course for Royal Ascot, Mark Johnston revealed today.

Last year's Hardwicke Stakes winner was accompanied by stable-companions Double Eclipse and Royal Rebel in a gallop at Pontefract on Monday evening and came through the exercise in fine style.

Fruits Of Love, who sustained an injury to a suspensory ligament while being prepared for the Hong Kong International Vase last December, has suffered no ill-effects after his spin.

"The work went fine and Fruits Of Love is fine this morning," his trainer said.

"He'll go for the Hardwicke Stakes (on Friday week) again now. We haven't got a jockey yet - we are still waiting to hear back from Kieren (Fallon)."

The Middleham trainer was particularly pleased with Double Eclipse's performance in the gallop.

Double Eclipse, who has spent the last two years at stud, finished second behind Fruits Of Love in the piece of work and Johnston added: "Double Eclipse's soundness was always going to be a worry but I was pleasantly surprised how well he went."

There are no immediate plans for Double Eclipse, who has won over £200,000 in prize money in a career plagued by tendon trouble.

"It is very hard trying to get him fit without breaking him down," added Johnston.

"There are very few opportunities for him. He's rated 110 so that makes it difficult for handicaps. I don't know where to run him at the moment."

Johnston confirmed recent Leopardstown winner Royal Rebel on course for the IAWS Curragh Cup on July 1st.
