Luke Comer's Rio Largo asserted inside the final furlong to land the spoils in the three-year-old handicap at Gowran Park.

Declan McDonogh had his mount prominent throughout in the seven-furlong contest and he stuck to his guns well down the straight.

The son of Dick Whittington got on top from front-runner Elmo Lincoln inside the final furlong to record a cosy three-and-a-quarter length win at odds of 9/1.

It was a first winner for the sire, winner of the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes in 2014.

Assistant Jim Gorman said:- “After all the seconds and placed horses we’ve had it’s a relief rather than a joy.

“He didn’t get the easiest of runs in Bellewstown (when fourth) and got baulked a couple of times. He’s a very genuine, tough horse.”
