Review CURRAGH 30TH SEP

Tragic Lover provided Louth permit holder Donal Kinsella with his biggest success when taking the #50,000 Ladbrokes Irish Cesarewitch at the Curragh on Saturday.

Conor Everard sent the four-year-old to the front over two furlongs out, and he held on by a length and a half from Hill Port. 'This horse has failed to enter the starting stalls three times this year, and we came here because it was a flag start,' said Kinsella. Everard was given a one day ban (october 9) for using his whip with excessive frequency.

Ned Kennedy added to the tally of permit holders when the 84 year old Tipperary handler saddled his first winner 'for about twenty years' as the Gordon Power-ridden College Dreamer caused a shock in the Go Racing In Kildare Annual Badge EBF Maiden. Kennedy was a leading National Hunt rider in his day, and partnered Hamstar to win the Irish Grand National in 1948.

Power earlier initiated his first ever double when Sarraaf took the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap in fine style, cruising to the front over a furlong out to beat Delirious Tantrum by three lengths.

Imagine greatly enhanced her paddock value when making all in the Group 3 C L Weld Park Stakes. The Sadler's Wells half-sister to Generous kept on gamely for Paul Scallan when challenged a furlong out by Katherine Seymour, eventually scoring by half a length. 'She is an Oaks filly for next year,' commented trainer Aidan O'Brien afterwards.

O'Brien was also on the mark earlier when Perigee Moon belied a lack of confidence in the market to make a successful debut in the Ballymany EBF Maiden. The American bred juvenile was always up with the pace, and drew clear over a furlong out for Colm O'Donoghue to beat America Calling by two and a half lengths.

'He was coughing earlier this year, and that delayed his appearance until now,' said the Ballydoyle handler. He added: 'He needs fast ground, and will make a nice horse next year.'
