Jessica Harrington and Shane Foley got on the scoresheet ahead of Sprewell’s Derby bid on Saturday as Pivotal Trigger made a successful return to action in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Race at Roscommon.

Foley elected to make all on the son of Pivotal, third in a Group 3 at Longchamp last autumn, and the 2/1 chance kept on gamely inside the final furlong to hold off Harbour Wind by half-a-length.

The pair pulled five and a half lengths clear of the well-backed 11/8 favourite Voice Of Reason

Harrington was represented by her daughter Kate who said, “We had him in the Group 3 (Gallinule Stakes) at the weekend but the ground went a little bit quick. When he was entered up here we knew Roscommon would do a great job and it was beautiful ground.

“He’s had a good blow after that and will improve plenty. He was fresh for the first half of the race.

“There is an option for him on Irish Derby weekend back up into Group company.

“We are rushing off now en route to Fairyhouse and I’m Shane’s driver.”

Foley has a further five rides at Fairyhouse this evening following on from his three mounts at Roscommon.
