Patrick Mullins was on the wrong one in the concluding bumper at Fairyhouse as the Jody Townend-partnered Redemption Day came back to his best in a first-time hood.

The Wille Mullins stablemates were sent off 2/1 joint-favourites but Patrick could only look on in the closing stages aboard Coco Masterpiece as Townend's mount, who had been patiently handled, quickened up well on the far rail over a furlong out to beat The Passing Wife by four and a quarter lengths.

The winner, second to Facile Vega in the Punchestown Champion Bumper of 2022, was having his third start following a 20-month absence.

Willie Mullins, who was recording his eighth winner of the three-day Easter meeting, said:- “He's had his problems but he's coming right now, even on ground he didn't like there.

“Jody got him lovely and settled and was able to use his bit of class.

“I think now we'll head to Punchestown for the Champion Bumper.

“He has a little bit of class and hopefully he'll go novice hurdling after that.”
