Apprentice Hugh Horgan produced an excellent front running ride on outsider Vernet when making all to land the Aiden Burns Memorial Race at Fairyhouse.

Pre-race the main protagonists appeared to be Monaasib and Pretreville but as it turned out, neither could land a telling blow on the Joseph O'Brien trained 9/2 chance.

Smartly away from stalls, Horgan dictated the pace throughout, finding plenty when challenged by Monaasib inside the final furlong.

The winner drifted across the track close home but there was no contact with the eventual runner-up.

“She's a lovely filly. She got things her own way, travelled very well in front, picked up well off the bend and loved the battle in the straight,” said Horgan.

“She seemed to thrive under pressure and was always sticking her nose out to the line.”
