CHELTENHAM OUT TO ATTRACT YOUNGER RACEGOERS
Zara Phillips will head Cheltenham racecourse`s drive to recruit younger racegoers, it was announced today.
The Princess Royal`s daughter will act as president of Club 16-24 during the National Hunt season, endorsing many of the functions planned for the club.
Club 16-24 replaces Cheltenham`s Junior membership.
Whitbread, former sponsors of the Thomas Pink Gold Cup, withdrew their backing of the November meeting at Cheltenham complaining that racing lacked appeal to their target audience.
Cheltenham commercial executive Rebecca Morgan said: 'We always intended re-branding junior membership this season, and Whitbread`s withdrawal highlighted the need to examine young people`s requirements in National Hunt racing.'
