Big Debates has proved a grand servant to connections this year and recorded his third handicap win in the Greenmount Equine Hospital Rated Novice Hurdle to complete a 25/1 double on the afternoon for rider Jack Foley at Limerick.

The Robert Tyner-trained gelding won over hurdles at Ballinrobe this spring and followed up over fences at Limerick in October before filling the runner-up spot on his latest two starts.

A return to hurdles proved just the trick here as Foley produced the 11/2 chance to challenge two out and he kept on well on the run-in to beat Auckland by a length. Krabat could find no extra in the closing stages a further three and a half lengths back in third.

Tyner said, “It looked competitive on paper but he did it well.

“They went a good gallop and he left them at it. He joined them nicely and always looked in control.

“He got under the last a small bit but he picked up again.

“He’s been consistent and he’ll probably go back over fences again. We’ll see what’s suitable for him.”
