Quar Shamar caused a 16/1 upset to win on second start today, as the Jessica Harrington-trained, Zhang Yuesheng-owned colt landed Dundalk's Bet In Running At BetVictor Maiden on seasonal reappearance.

Racing behind the leaders, the son of Shamardal led inside the final furlong and comfortably beat 4/5 favourite Unless by two and a quarter lengths.

Winning jockey Shane Foley said "we loved him last year and we entered him in the (Irish) Guineas. He did run in a decent maiden last year but disappointed us on the day. It was quite soft ground that day and he's a very good-moving horse.”

He added “looking forward, I think he could have a nice future.

"A lot of our horses have been taking their first run but up here is a bit different, it is not as hard and not as testing obviously as the grass and they can sometimes get away with it when they are not really readied up.

"I think he will improve plenty."
