Well-bred Sonaiyla gained all-important winning black-type status at Cork today as she landed the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Sweet Mimosa Stakes on debut for trainer Paddy Twomey.

Ridden by Bill Lee, the daughter of Dark Angel, backed from 25/1 to 12/1, made all in gaining a half-length win over Back To Brussels to score on debut for Twomey and new owner Ennistown Stud.

Sonaiyla was previously a winner for trainer Michael Halford at Leopardstown last October and was subsequently purchased, from the Aga Khan, for €110,000 at Goffs last November.

Following today's win, Twomey stated “we ran against her once at Leopardstown last year and I was very impressed by her. Ruairi O'Coileain, of Ennistown Stud, was my first outside owner and when I saw this filly catalogued at the sales, I told him 'I'd like you to buy this filly'.

“To be fair to him he did and I'm delighted to get today's result and I'd like to say a special thanks to Ruairi.

“She is a very well bred filly and has Sinndar's pedigree and has now won her Stakes race so we'll try and get a Group race next.”
