John Nicholson's in-foal mare Knockcroghery landed her third success in the space of 11 days in a thrilling finish to the At The Races Rated Hurdle at Limerick.
A winner on the Flat at Tipperary and Bellewstown, the six-year-old put in a slick round on her return to jumping and was allowed to sweep into the lead going to two out by Mark Enright.
The 5-2 chance stuck her neck out and battled on gamely when she was tackled by the favourite Pires on the run-in and the post came just in time as she won by a short head.
There was an extraordinary finish to the thetote.com Galway Plate Trial Handicap Chase, which was won by Robbie Power on the Noel Meade-trained 20-1 shot Another Palm < Supreme Doc looked to have the race in the bag when he went clear on the run-in, but he stopped to nothing close home and both the winner and Our Girl Lucy swept past, with the distance between them just a nose at the line.
The Michael Hourigan-trained Whats Happening remains unbeaten over fences in two starts after making heavy weather of landing the richest race on the card, the Limerick GAA Supporters Chase.< Original Option looked to be going best over the last two jumps, but Whats Happening (13-8 favourite) would not go away and stuck on well to score by a length under a Barry Geraghty drive.
Alan Crowe got a good tune out of The Lady Granuaile in the limerickraces.ie Mares Beginners Chase and Pauline Gavin's eight-year-old (20-1) jumped the last two fences stylishly to outpoint Sox's Girl by three lengths.< River Slaney (14-1) got away from the last quicker than Sizing India in the 20,000 Euros Tote Placepot Guarantee Maiden Hurdle after a battle down the straight and Liz Doyle's six-year-old won by two lengths under Adrian Heskin.
