Eoin Mahon won the first of a new six-race 'John Thomas McNamara Series' of races for amateur jockeys claiming 7lbs at Fairyhouse today, as he steered the Willie Austin trained Beating The Odds to win the 2m3f handicap hurdle.

Beating The Odds, a son of Oscar, was challenging when blundering at the final flight but rallied well on the run-in to peg back Optum and score a half-length win.

Winning trainer Willie Austin was on lead-up and afterwards jockey Mahon, riding his ninth racecourse winner, stated “he made a mistake at the last and had a good look around but in fairness he battled hard to the line.”
