It all comes together nicely for Miramis at Gowran

Sheila Lavery, often a trainer to have on side at Galway, is building nicely towards the festival next week, Miramis being her latest winner in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at Gowran.

Just last night Supreme Machine struck for the County Meath-based handler in the finale at Cork, and here 92-rated Miramis seemed to enjoy her first outing on good ground, coming off the back of an 81-day absence.

The 11/4 scorer chased the leader in second, and improved to lead travelling well two furlongs out.

Pushed along and clear over a furlong out, Miramis stayed on well under hands and heels to easily defeat Micromoon and favourite Golden Lyric by four and a half lengths and three lengths.

“I thought the world of this filly as a two-year-old but it's just been hard to get her right and her bloods this year have been wrong the whole time,” said the winning trainer.

“The last time I cried when a horse won was when Lady Kaya won the Group 3 but today she's shown what we've thought of her all along.

“I ran a bit scared as she doesn't have any smart entries whereas she had loads of smart entries as a two-year-old. I'll have a look at the program now and see.

“I'm just thrilled. She's a tricky filly, in her brain not to ride, and all the team look after her so well.

“Robbie said she loved the ground today, and floated around, and did that easy. He was hoping that the horse in front would take him a bit further because she had a look around.

“It's the first time she's run on proper ground. I suppose I should have believed in myself and given her some smart entries but I'll find something for her.”
