FormscanBy Tom Weekes - Ryan Moore rides at Gowran for the first time today and the first of two spins ROMAN EMPIRE can show him around and win. ROMAN EMPIRE has already raced twice at the track and having caught the eye on debut, was a taking winner in October. ROMAN EMPIRE is a horse with plenty ability, is suited by easy ground and while he will get further distance-wise, won over today's trip last-time. 101-rated Vafortino is ridden by a 5lbs claimer, meaning he receives 2lbs from the selection and will give him a race. He is ground-versatile and while vulnerable to smart types, was a consistent and able performer last year. Erzindjan is capable and met trouble in-running on reappearance run at the Curragh last month. He showed good ability in winning his maiden and finishing fourth in the Killavullen Stakes last year and while he might struggle to beat a smart type today, appears better than his 91 rating. Liffey River showed good form in maidens but was well held in a Group 2 on his latest start in September.
