Formscan - Derek O'Connor has worn the JP McManus colours to glory in this a couple of times, most recently on subsequent Gold Cup hero Inothewayurthinkin in 2024, and he can do so again on JERIKO DU REPONET. The Nicky Henderson-trained seven-year-old hasn't exactly looked a natural chaser, but he has bags of quality and was runner-up in the Pertemps Final 12 months ago. He looks to have been perfectly campaigned because he sneaks in here just under the ceiling with his 145 rating - 4lb lower than his timber figure. McManus is also represented by Waterford Whispers, who caught the eye when making the frame over an extended 2m5f at the DRF. Kim Roque was back in fifth on that occasion, but should appreciate the extra yardage. Herakles Westwood and last year's winner Daily Present are just two more to consider.

He is a horse that gets into a nice rhythm and jumps well, he was probably jumping too well to that hurdle (second-last) and he just met it on a half stride. A bit of a guess just when we were starting to get rolling. Overall, he's a good jumper and it was a good performance. The two of us (Three Card Brag) probably were in the same boat in that we wanted a nice gallop, but neither of us were really mad to make it. We went along upsides and we went a nice, even gallop all the way. It kind of suited both of us and, in fairness, this lad picked up nicely into the straight. It is beautiful ground - it is just yielding, it isn't any slower. It is lovely jumping ground. We didn't declare for the Grade 1, we had a talk and some were for it and some against it. If he wasn't going to win this, he wasn't going to win the Grade 1 in an hour's time. Why take on a horse rated 10lb above you? He'd won one maiden hurdle and is the best horse we have in the yard, so it's nice to get another win with him. He'd prefer easier ground, it's as nice as he'd want it, but it's lovely ground and the track looks fantastic. Next to my father Dan Browne is the greatest gentleman I ever met and is a great supporter for the yard. I delighted for Jim Coffey and all the lads involved. It means an awful lot for every trainer to win here and thanks be to God we got one. We'll probably start off over two-and-a-half over fences next season and build it up. Please God it will lead to Cheltenham again. It's nice

They looked like they went a proper gallop. Sean saying going down the back he let yer man slip on because they had gone fast enough. He just gave him a little flick, he wasn't hard on him, he was happy going to the last that he hadn't really gone for him. When Paul (Townend, on Bronn) came to him he went away from him. Sean thinks he's a proper one and I hope he's right. He has changed hands and that's his first run for them, it was sort of a pressure day so thankfully he won. We'll see about Fairyhouse and Punchestown with him. He was in the Albert Bartlett but off his ratings he had no real entitlement to go to that. I think he's a horse that could improve, he's a very slim sort of horse and is just strengthened a bit more and he's only five-years-old. He'll probably get one more run and that'll be it. I'd say he'll handle better ground as he's a very good mover. I was worried about the ground today, he had won on soft but this was proper tacky winter ground and he went through it well. I love the way he went through the line, it was the same in Fairyhouse. The two horses he beat there have won since. I always love a horse that finishes well and he finishes out through the line well, he has a good attitude.
