Formscan By Tom Weekes - GIVE HIM A CHANCE is an able handicapper and should compete from his career-high rating of 116. Ground-versatile, the selection finished second at Cheltenham in November and while he disappointed during Christmas, he is generally reliable and won a big-field handicap at Naas last month. One Big Boum relishes testing ground and won easily at Fairyhouse last month but himself competes from a career-high mark and would ideally prefer farther. Becasse hasn’t run since landing an ordinary hurdle race at Fontainebleau in October 2024 while Tir Og would have claims if reproducing her good earlier-season form.

It was a good performance. It’s a great race to win, because Tommy Carberry was my hero when I was a young fella growing up,. He looked to be in control and he stretched out well to the line. He’s an improving horse and the blinkers certainly make a difference to him. He’s effective on that ground and it looks very necessary. He could go to Punchestown for the two-and-a-half mile opportunity race but it depends on ground. We’ll see how he is, there is no such thing as an easy race on very heavy ground. We’ll take our time with him as he likes to be fresh.

Richie said he is a grand horse, is still a bit raw and said they went a good gallop. He said he knew from the bottom of the straight he had them covered and he stays going well, we thought that ourselves after his Sligo win. Winter ground is an unknown but has been running on quick ground and that's the softest ground he has run on yet. He has been on the go a while but we'll see what the boss man (owner Pat Conway) wants to do. He'll jump fences next year.

we rode the horse positively the last day but he was just too keen. He travelled well into the straight then but didn’t get home, so I said to Alex to take his time. He gave him a super ride, was very polished and that’s his first winner for me. He is owned by two publicans from Gorey (John O’Connor and Michael Gleeson) who own two different pubs in the town, so normally they’re in competition. I have great support locally and it is lovely to be getting winners for local people.

When I heard the three fences were left out I was concerned because jumping is his forte. There wasn't much jumping!. It was a long run home and I said he will definitely get idle. He could have wilted when I saw Keith (Donoghue on Bythesametoken) coming on his outside. He has a good mark over hurdles and we will see what the handicapper does. I've run him quite a few times over hurdles and he runs well, but he is a horse that doesn't see out his races. I'd be tempted to go back over hurdles as he will get a few pounds for that. He has a few pounds to spare (over hurdles), you'd hope anyway.

That was grand, it's nice to get him back. He's been off a while with an injury and we've given him plenty of time. He did it well and think he'll come on from it, hopefully he'll improve a bit.
