Formscan By Tom Weekes - First-time blinkered CONNEMARA SHORE remains somewhat unexposed and ran nicely over hurdles at Naas 13 days ago. The selection didn’t show much on her initial attempts but won a point-to-point on seasonal reappearance last November. She was well-supported before exiting at halfway at Navan in January and while clearly no star, can win from her current rating. Five-time winner and veteran Lake Chad has been running well and has obvious claims while Long Road ran well at Thurles earlier this month. Dual winner Chosen Diamond ran well over hurdles at Navan last month.

that was his first time over the trip although Rachael (Blackmore) was always telling me to go three miles. Rachael had been doing a great job and had the good sense to pull him up at Thurles when the ground was too quick but then I jocked her off! I’m delighted for James though who has been a good friend for years and gave him a great spin. I just felt that he needed the 7lb (claim) over the extended trip. we’ve always thought he was a nice horse and he just had a few niggly problems and our vet Amy Fitzgerald has done a lot of work with him. This horse is a real gent, I bought him off Aidan Fitzgerald, Tina Condon rides him out at home everyday and is a huge part of my team along with her daughter Ava. He’s a big boy so we’ll give a bit of time and pick something at Christmas.

We will keep popping away with him and see what the handicapper does. He is an honest horse and kept galloping there. He is rated lower over hurdles, so we also have that option. He is owned by two ladies (Anne McCartan and Frances Smyth) from Tyrone and they are not here today unfortunately.

he ran a great race in Fairyhouse for me at the festival meeting at Easter where a horse fell and he got driven out into the next parish. After that I thought 'if I could keep him right'. I thought Philip (Enright, winning jockey) was leaving him with a lot to do but said he thought he had enough in hand to get there and when he went for him, he found a little more. It's a tough battle in that ground but it is loose. I think we'll keep him at the hurdles because he didn't impress me a lot when we tried him over fences and we'll take what comes. The horses are healthy at the moment and fit and that's all you can hope for.

we’re a long time trying to get his head in front over hurdles and he’s not a baby at this stage. I was saying if he wasn’t in the frame today we’d just got back chasing as we might have some chance. He works well but has disappointed us a few days although was unlucky last year on a couple of days. Philip Byrnes gave him a great spin today and actually beat him two runs, so he knew what he was riding. He kept him out on a bit of the fresher ground as along the rail it was very tacky and chopped up in there. He really had to empty the tank from the last home to get there. I didn’t think he was going to get there but it’s great to get it. There is no plan but we’ll find something for him.

Vincent (O'Connor, from Abbeyfeale) bred him himself and he is a grand old horse. The horse that finished third behind him at Clonmel the last day won yesterday (Beggars Rock in Limerick), so the form is working out well. He is a good, consistent horse, but we were worried that the ground had become tacky although he got through it as he is tough. It's grand to get a Christmas winner.

We were really happy with her coming back here today. The young lad did nothing wrong on her the last day but Eoin knows her so well and knowing this mare is a big deal. Eoin has been schooling her for years now, he's been helping me out since the start. He just gets her jumping, he sits against her and leaves her alone. She dictated it again today and she was pretty impressive today, I thought she was just idling in front. Eoin was impressed with her and she's building a bit of momentum now. There is a meeting back here in three weeks or a month so she'll probably come back here for that. I was delighted with her in Naas because she wasn't beaten that far and she never jumped a hurdle like she did here. She's handicapped over fences as well.
