Formscan By Tom Weekes - French import DIAMOND DU BERLAIS was a 13-race maiden prior to scoring on debut for Willie Mullins at Ludlow in February but is a capable type who could be suited by stepping up to this trip. Thrice Graded-placed in her native France, the selection ran well at both the Cheltenham and Punchestown festivals last spring and gained course experience when finishing behind two smart types here last month. Brother Walfrid disappointed at Galway while stablemate Loch Cuan steps up from two summer Cartmel wins. Local News had a subsequent-winner behind in third place at Cork in May and defeated today’s rival and subsequent dual-winner Pets Georgina at Kilbeggan.

He had a good run at Easter. I shouldn’t have run him in a bumper the last day, it was just that the owners were going so we said we would. He’s a big three-mile horse in the making, he jumps and stays well. It was a good performance, they pulled well clear of the third. We’ll try and win again with him somewhere.

He had a lovely run in Mallow. He was probably just a bit raw the first day in Gowran and ideally looking back now, I probably would have left his first run to be in Mallow. He’s after coming on from his run in Mallow and I knew he’d be close today. I’m delighted. This is as nice a horse as I’ve had. He’s a really promising horse. He’s owned by Vince O’Driscoll and myself, we are Double O Racing. Anything is for sale, but it won’t bother me to keep this horse as he’s as good a horse as I’ve had. He’s a very smart one going forward.

It’s super, obviously in a small field like that you are worried that it could turn into a tactical affair,. She had the least experience in the race so it’s great to see her pull it out like that. She’s such an honest mare and a pleasure to deal with. We’re very lucky to find a mare like her that’s after winning her first two. It’s hard enough to place her after winning first time out as there are no mares’ novices. We had to take on the geldings. We took the chance, going up to three miles today, and it worked out. It was a great rider from Alan. I was a bit worried when the leader was ahead but he was confident that he had enough horse to catch up at all times. It seems that she doesn’t mind toughing it out. We’ll regroup now and see where we go next. After the last day I thought the best thing to do was to go and try to chase a bit of prize-money. I don’t want to over step her and take on mares that are too good yet. It’s a great day, we came all the way from Cork and it’s good to be coming up here and getting a winner. She loves good ground, she just seems to really enjoy it.

This is a nice mare. I’d say she’s way better than the ordinary and she’s a winter-type mare. She’s out of a very good mare. This one is the real deal. It was only her third run over hurdles, although you could say it was her second (badly hampered and unseated early at Ballinrobe). I was forced to go for a bumper as she got an RPR of 120 after being second. Just pure greenness beat her in Kilbeggan, or she would have won that novice hurdle. I said to JJ that he was on way the best horse in the race and he said he’d make the running then and do it the hard way. He said it was easier than it looked. She’ll go to Cork next. There is a three-mile novice there and also a three-mile graded race.
