Formscan By Tom Weekes - It is hoped GAELIC DES CHASTYS will be ready for his first start since January, as last year’s Listowel festival-success reads well. An able type at this level, he was well enough held in third-place here last August but reverts to a more favourable trip today and, notably, on his last chase outing at Listowel last September, five of the beaten horses won races soon afterwards. Stablemate Illtakehimmyself is progressive and won over hurdles here in July but debuts over fences. Tippin And Tappin was out of sorts here last month but is a previous course winner while ex-hunter chaser Kings Jet ran well in Kilbeggan but would prefer a longer trip.

Quotes on Illtakehimmyself (IRE)
He deserved that. He’s been placed in his last three runs and gone up 7lb,. It was important to try and win with him before he crept up another few pounds. He’s not blessed with speed but he’s a real tough, genuine, honest, horse. He’ll go chasing sooner rather than later, he jumps a fence very well. He loves a bit of good ground, so he’ll run away for the summer now.

Quotes on Gaelic Des Chastys (FR)
our week from last year was never likely to be replicated and we have been hitting the cross-bar this week, so this is a relief. We had been a bit unlucky with a few of our runners but the horses have been running great. I tried running Gaelic Des Chastys over hurdles earlier this week as he is so much better ‘in’ over hurdles but he didn’t get in, so I ended up with three horses taking each other on in this race, which is a pity. Gaelic Des Chastys was unlucky at Roscommon (in August) when his jockey eased up and then he didn’t get 2m7f in Killarney. The syndicate is headed by publican Josh Sheahan from Askeaton and by God they’ll celebrate this.

Quotes on Ollie La Ba Ba (IRE)
Jody is a huge asset and while I secured her early last week, I had a different horse Thinking Man in mind for her. I thought Thinking Man was really solid but when he got balloted out, I switched her to Ollie La Ba Ba. Thinking Man ended up getting in a reserve and while he ran well to a point, his run petered out. Jody gave the winner a peach and got him up where it mattered. We are just having one of those weeks and everything is bouncing our way.

Quotes on Burru (IRE)
This horse had left me for a while but his last two runs for me were when he won at Cork (November 2024) and then when he finished second in a good handicap at Navan, and I thought if he could just reproduce that Navan run, that it would put him in today's picture. Having left me for a period of time, I was a little in the dark with the horse but he was in off near bottom weight on his favoured good ground, so I did fancy him. This horse actually means a lot to me as he won at a time when my father was unwell, so he is a horse close to my heart. That's my third winner, I only have two horses for the track at the moment and had one point-to-pointer last winter. I'm based in Kilmeaden and I mostly break and pre-train horses, but can train one when we get them.

Quotes on Tippin And Tappin (IRE)
he is a big horse for around here but this is a course some jockeys are very good around, and Darragh excels here. A friend of mine Paul Leonard had this horse in his early days and Luke McMahon, his son Aubrey and their friends are involved in him now. Aubrey previously rode out for me and rode Josies Orders (Cheltenham festival winner) in point-to-points.

Quotes on Shannon Bank (IRE)
I'm delighted for his owner Tom Mulvey as we have right craic over how I got to train this horse. I previously trained a horse called Luker's Tipple for a group of lads who drink with Tom in Luker's Pub in Shannonbridge. When the lads were moving my horse to Gavin Cromwell, Tom - without even knowing me - said 'what's this lad Kinirons' number?', and moved this mare from Gavin's to me!. Tom is a sound man, but unfortunately couldn't make it down today. In fairness, this mare had some good form in bumpers before I got her. We tricked away with her at home, and she took a bit of organising but we had this race planned and she had a nice run over fences the last day. She has come into herself. She is a game mare, but I had a bit of convincing to get Sean (O'Keeffe) off last year's winner (and today's runner-up Patty O'Farrell) to ride this mare, but he listened thank God and gave her a great ride.

Quotes on Ferdia (IRE)
I really like this horse. I brought him to Ballinrobe first time out and he was as green as grass. I didn't think it would be possible for him to win but he did. Philip wasn't over hard on him the last day behind Barry Connell's horse but the next time he meets him it'll be a different ball game. This trip is totally too short for him. He is a two-and-a-half to two-mile-six horse. His work at home is real classy. The dam is a half-sister to a good horse Paul Nicholls had (El Bandit).
