We did think, coming here today, that a mile and a-half around here with a little ease in the ground would suit her really well. Ben said he kept it simple and she won well. She was still a bit green, so hopefully there is more to come. She’ll probably be in a handicap next, today was important - to get that bracket beside her and everyone is happy.

Ballinrobe Mon, 22nd Jun, 2026  Merlin The Wizard I told Dylan to pop out and be handy, and to settle him where he was comfortable, and he gave him a brilliant ride. I was happy watching it, because I knew it was going to be hard for the fancied ones to come from the back. The last day when he won (at Limerick) it turned into a three-furlong sprint and he was tapped for toe a bit, so I wanted him to be handy and that's usually the way to ride them around here. His owners are from Galway and that's the plan for him now. It will be more competitive there, but this was a nice race to win anyway. We just have 10 stables in the yard, and that's as many as I want. Luckily we've managed to find one or two decent horses most years and if they're good enough, I feel I'm good enough to train them.

Limerick Wed, 10th Jun, 2026  Merlin The Wizard The owners decided that we’d go back to a claimer to try and get his head in front and it mightn’t have been the worst race in the world. The trip was obviously a worry, going up to 1m4f, but I thought after the last day, at the Curragh over a mile, he looked to be on his head all the way. Colin said he got the trip no bother there which is great as it opens a few more options. I'm delighted for his owners Lorna Honan and her husband Chris Fennessy, while his other owner Ronnie Quinn didn't make it, as he unfortunately got stuck in traffic.

Fairyhouse Fri, 5th Jun, 2026  Antigua In fairness, he has run well in a couple of maidens before today. Jack gave him a peach of a ride. He let him at it from the word go and set a solid, even, tempo. He got them at it, really, from halfway. When the second horse came to him, he picked up and went again. This is probably his trip, but he’s in the Ulster Derby in a couple of weeks time and it might be worth a crack at that. We’ll see what way the race in Down Royal cuts up, and he might be worth a go at it. If not we’ll find a mile-and-a-quarter handicap for him.

Gowran Park Wed, 20th May, 2026  Earthsong She's a big, strong filly just growing into herself. The more time she got, the better. I had to persuade Kieran (Lawlor, Racing Manager) a little bit to keep going with her and give her a bit of time.

Punchestown Sat, 2nd May, 2026  Saratoga We went a good gallop over the first four hurdles and, the boys just slowed it down down the back. This lad was travelling so easily, he made a mistake at the first down the back, so I just pulled him out for light as this hurdles. Once he had a bit of light, he was winging hurdles. We hoped he would do that and he has obviously proven himself. To win any race at the Punchestown festival is great but to win a first Grade 1 here is unbelievable, I'm over the moon. Alan Crowe recommended buying the horse through his job in Ballydoyle and Dad (Christy) convinced JP to buy him. Alan was first-jockey to Dad for years and told us if we could buy this horse, to do so. We take whatever horses we get from JP every year and I'm delighted for him, as he has always been there. In total, we only have ten or 12 jump horses and six or seven Flat ones so I'd love to get more and further outside owners. I haven't a clue where he runs next!

Punchestown Thu, 30th Apr, 2026  Beauvallon I’m delighted with that performance. He’s a horse that is improving. He wasn’t always in love with the game, but I think he’s jumping better than he’s Flat racing. We might go back on the Flat again with him this summer though. He’s going the right way and it’s a nice win for Patrick Wynn-Jones who is the manager for Barnane Stud. Himself and a few pals have this horse. They brought him back from France to give a trial to and he’s trialling well at the moment!

He had a lot of weight on his back but is a very big horse and still did it,. He a gentle giant and being a five-year-old, he could go chasing next year but I don't know yet. . He slightly struggled on heavy ground but loves that good ground and jumped really well. We have one (Punchestown winner) on the board which is great, as I don't have that many national hunt horses now.

Dundalk Wed, 1st Apr, 2026  Emmeleia She's a nice filly and we thought this trip would suit her well, plenty of stamina in the pedigree. I think she has improved. They pulled well clear of the third which is a good sign. They have been working together at home, and I thought they were both working nicely. She (Eretria) was ready to run, I was eager to get a start on her on a sound surface. She will hopefully be a nice filly going forward and she'll improve plenty from that.
