Ryan Sexton booted home the second winner of his career on board Angel's Trumpet in the first split of the extended mile handicap at Killarney.

Sarah McCarthy, having her first racecourse ride, got a good spin off Reddiac at the head of affairs. The pair were still there until Angel's Trumpet collared them with a furlong and a half to go.

The new leader was ridden inside the final furlong and had just enough to hold on from fast-finishing Legal Thriller

The 14/1 shot won by a short head from the 8/1 runner-up. Dance Emperor came through for third at 8/1, some three and a quarter lengths behind.

This winner gave trainer Peter Fahey an across-the-card double as Soaring Monarch landed a handicap in the afternoon card at Roscommon.

Fahey said: "This is the first horse to run in these colours and Anthony Rogers and my wife Ber have him between them and are hoping to raise more funds for Cancer Trials - Pat Smullen's set-up.

"I put up a year's training fee last year and we had a horse, but it didn't work out. In fairness to Anthony Rogers, of Airlie Stud, he came to me and said he had this horse with Willie (McCreery) which would suit.

"I'm delighted for them and all this prize money goes to the Trials."

He added "Ryan is a very very good rider, is with me full-time and is very strong and it would be great to get another winner to get his claim down as that's nearly his lowest weight.

"I think the horse will improve for that and we'll go for something similar next."

This was Angel's Trumpet's first run for Fahey having switched from Willie McCreery. He had also been gelded since his last run and was sporting first-time blinkers.
