Birth Of Venus stayed on stoutly to land her first career victory in the extended mile and one handicap at Gowran Park.

The High Chaparral filly set off in pursuit of Dawn Hoofer and Wishing Star in the final quarter of a mile.

She answered Wayne Lordan's urgings to get on terms with Dawn Hoofer at the furlong pole and soon led narrowly.

The well backed 9/2 chance, from 7/1, was driven out to score by a length from Dawn Hoofer (7/2). Wishing Star was a further length away in third at 8/1.

Trainer Henry de Bromhead said: “She ran really well the other day in Navan and I was hoping a little bit further would suit her which it did. She needed every inch of it obviously and it was a super ride from Wayne.

“Hopefully she might keep progressing now. She loves that fast ground, and we’ll step her up in trip as she struggled to travel there.

"You would love to get her where she is comfortable travelling away, and I wouldn’t mind going straight to a mile and a half.”
