Battling Boru (14/1 - 8/1) scored a second father and son win of the evening at Sligo today when winning the Sean Graham Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle for Tony and Danny Mullins. Churchfield Champ went clear before the last flight and looked set to collect but Battling Boru stayed on strongly to scoot clear close home, for a two lengths win.
Afterwards winning trainer Tony Mullins said “I thought it was a weakish race and I fancied Battling Boru well. He may go for another handicap and then go chasing – it depends on how hard the handicapper hits him. It took me a while to get to know him but he is a fair sort of horse.
The winner was carrying the colours of the Athlone based Shoot A Hoop Syndicate.
