Wicklow Brave had to survive a stewards enquiry in the concluding bumper at Galway this evening.

Patrick Mullins produced his mount with a well-timed run in the straight to land the two-miler but he drifted left in the closing stages.

He moved slightly in on runner-up Marty's Magic who in turn came across Sukiyaki in a tight finish.

The eventual fourth was forced through the rails just after the winning post. The winner got home by three-parts-of-a-length.

Marty's Magic was a head in front of Top Othe Ra with a neck back to Sukiyaki.

The winner was making his first start since narrowly losing out in a bumper at Punchestown in May.

“He travelled very well and I ended up behind Robbie McNamara which is where you want to be around Galway as he rides it better than anyone,” said Patrick Mullins.

“He was looking at the crowd, that's what got him beat last time, and he had more in the tank. He's improved from last time and I think he'll improve again.

“It's great to get the monkey off my back on the first day as I'll have a lot of fancied rides during the week.”

The stewards deemed that Mullins had ridden carelessly and suspended him for four racedays.

Mullins stated afterwards that he would be appealing the verdict.
