Callaghan and Roche off the mark
Leigh Roche recorded his first winner of the season when he came home in front of the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap aboard 8/1 shot Patrickswell
Roche who took up the lead early sprinted clear of his rivals from over one furlong out and kept on well close home to hold off the late challenge of Trotting Weasel by three parts of a length.
Winning trainer Marcus Callaghan said afterwards: “He was a bit unlucky at Wexford the last day, he was very slow leaving the stalls.”
“He was only just beaten on the beach two years ago so I thought he’d have enough speed for this.”
“Leigh has now won on him twice.”
