The Val O'Brien trained Valours Minion gained a thoroughly belated debut win at Killarney today, winning the Malton.com Handicap Chase at the grand old age of 11, under jockey Danny Mullins.
O'Brien, renowned as a trainer who gets the most out of veteran chasers, was having his own first win since Carrow Queen at Limerick last December and following today's win, stated “he (Valours Minion) is too keen early in his races and that's as far as he wants. He ran over three miles at Roscommon the last day and pulled too hard.
“We'll go for a similar handicap next.”
