Flic Flac (3/1) picked off Jesmond Lodge at the furlong pole and went on to snugly score in the countysligoraces.com Fillies Handicap.

Jesmond Lodge, the 20/1 outsider of the sextet, soon led under Ian Queally but the pair were swallowed up by Flic Flac and Pat Smullen at the business end. Almosthaditall who was slowly away and raced in last, made headway into third turning in and closed into second to be beaten three parts of a length at 14/1. Taaluf the well backed 13/8 favourite from 5/2 this morning, didn’t pick up when fourth inside the final quarter of a mile and that was the position she remained in.

“I thought if she came back to anything like her best she’d be hard to beat. The track and ground suited her well. I probably got to the front plenty soon enough and she had a look when she got to the front, but she was different class,” Pat Smullen said.

The Dermot Weld-trained Flic Flac is owned by Mrs Noeleen McCreevy, wife of former minister for finance Charlie McCreevy. Both were in attendance this evening.
