After his win for Joseph O’Brien in the opener on Hadman Dylan Browne McMonagle doubled up in the Thomastown Race at Gowran aboard Zawara
For the Aga Khan and Dermot Weld this Dubawi filly was held up in touch in last early.
The chestnut was closer in fourth at halfway, and was third three furlongs out.
Zawara improved to lead and was ridden two furlongs out. She had a reduced advantage inside the final furlong, keeping on close home, all out to hold strong finisher Eaglefield by a neck.
“That was a nice performance by her. She got black type last year and the plan will be to try and get a bit more in the coming months,” said Weld.
“She would appreciate a bit more ease in the ground but that said it is lovely summer ground. It’s a great credit to Paddy Graffin and the staff when you consider it is 25C.
“I might have gone a bit far with her going a mile and six but I would be confident that she will get another two furlongs.”
The Stewards requested a report from D. K. Weld, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Zawara, placed first, as compared with its most recent run. Kris Weld, Authorised representative for the trainer concerned stated that todays better ground coupled with a drop back in trip had helped to bring about the apparent improvement in form. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation given.
