Desert Haven came good at the ninth time of asking when making all under Dylan Browne McMonagle to win the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Fairyhouse.

Sent straight into the lead from the off, McMonagle dictated the pace on the gelded son of Oasis Dream before kicking for home early in the straight.

Market leader First Gentleman who had finished ahead of the Meade horse when the pair met at Cork recently, could find no extra from over 2f out, merely keeping on at the one pace. Blue News stayed on well to finish second for the Slattery team.

Desert Haven was completing a double for trainer Noel Meade who had earlier sent out Susie Wosie to win the Claimer.

Dylan Browne McMonagle said, “He’s been hitting the crossbar and deserved it. He’s been very consistent the whole way through.

“He’s been running over six and been very solid on straight tracks but I think the bend helped him today and he got the trip well.

“He tries hard and did it well at the line. I got a lovely breather into him before the bend and he was tough.”
