Heffernan, Maher suspended at Clonmel

Thu 27th May 2010, 21:29

Seamus Heffernan was hit with a seven day suspension at Clonmel after being found in breach of Regulation 10 (2),(b), concerning his use of the whip on Passion Ignited in the Knockmealdown Handicap.

The Stewards took the view that Heffernan’s use of the whip on Passion Ignited, which finished 13th, had been “unnecessary”.

The Clonmel officials also suspended Keith Maher one day for the same offence, on 11th placed Jackdaw Nodaw in the same race. Maher's previous good record was taken into account.

Half an hour earlier jockeys Declan McDonogh and Niall McCullagh were both cautioned for excessive use of the whip on Gypsy Rose and Lombrici in the Chair Handicap.
