Review LAYTOWN 11th Sep
The sand was flying in soggy conditions on the beach at Laytown but Mt Weather (7-1) handled it well in the Seaview Slovakia Handicap.
Dick Donohoe's gelding appeared booked for second at best when Patrickswell showed no signs of stopping in front, but Declan McDonogh galvanised his mount for one late thrust and the effort paid off by a short head.
Adriatic, who had the winner back in eighth when scoring at Tipperary recently, was a close-up third.
McDonogh supplemented Mt Weather's victory when Silidan proved too strong in the Castlemartin Final Sales Claiming Race.
Trained by Grand National-winning handler Gordon Elliott, the 10-1 chance was always prominent and crossed the line with something up his sleeve after the seven-furlong test.
Elliott completed a double of his own when Grand Opera (3-1) rewarded favourite-backers under a confident Nina Carberry ride in the Hibernia Steel (QR) Handicap.
Carberry was happy enough to let her mount bowl along in mid-division on the extreme outside of the field until asking him for an effort a quarter of a mile from the finish.
He took it up just inside the final furlong and was always holding the game Shaimaa for a comfortable triumph.
Topenhall left it late but grabbed the prize in the Gilna's Cottage Inn Maiden.
Having his first start on the level, the winning hurdler isn't entirely reliable but he was on one of his going days to catch Redwater River for a last-gasp verdict at the rewarding odds of 14-1.
Richelieu (7-2 favourite) confirmed the promise of his back-to-form second at Down Royal when coming with a withering run to gain the day in the O'Neills Sports Handicap under Colm O'Donoghue, while the Pat's Centra (QR) Race went the way of 5-2 shot Munich, who gave Nina Carberry a brace on the card.
