Big Bad Lily came with a storming late run, under Luke Dempsey, to repeat last year's success in the Trim Apprentice Handicap at Navan.

Ken Condon 's charge was towards the rear in the early stages, of the five furlong contest, after missing the kick slightly but was switched out from the rail over a furlong out to make progress.

The 11/1 shot really got going inside the final furlong to grab Sweetest Taboo close home with 6/1 favourite Lily's Prince also finishing well in second to get within a head of the winner.

It was a fifth career success for the six-year-old, who was dropping back in trip having been campaigned over six furlongs on her most recent starts.

“With a bit of age she’s more effective on soft ground. You could say she was a bit unlucky at Listowel last time where she was slowly away,” said Condon .

“She won this last year off a 7lb lower mark, and it’s great for her owner Brendan McDonnell as it’s his local track.

“She won at the Curragh earlier this year and was also placed a number of times this season. The plan is to put her in foal next spring, and she may have a few runs after that.”
