Loch Long takes advantage of class drop

Mon 20th Jul 2009, 18:39

Punters that invested on Loch Long (2/1 into 6/4) taking advantage of a massive drop in class in the Bookmakers' New Car Park Maiden were rewarded when Pat Shannon made all on Tracey Collins' Galileo colt.

Beaten all of 27 lengths in the Irish Derby at the Curragh, he was far from disgraced though and in eighth place behind Fame And Glory he wasn't that far off the likes of Recharge, Gan Amhras and The Bull Hayes.

That was his first outing of the campaign after two fair efforts at two and he derived enough experience from those three starts to make all and see off the favourite, Blue Ridge Lane by two and a half lengths.

Collins said: "The owners (Thistle Bloodstock Limited) entered him in the Derby. He was entitled to win that and hopefully he'll go on and improve from it. I'm very pleased with him."
