Lucky 13 for Weld as Smullen hits a perfect 10
Dermot Weld further extended his record haul to 13 this week after Address Unknown gained a hard-earned victory over chief market-rival Fleur De Nuit (13/8) in the concluding Guinness Race.
The 5/4 favourite gained a slight edge a furlong out, and kept on gamely to hold the renewed effort of the well-backed Fleur De Nuit (7/2 this morning) by half a length. Hawk Flight (12/1) was ten length adrift in third.
Weld said, “That was a very good ride by the pilot. I'd like to win a Listed race with him. He was just beaten in the Oyster Stakes last year, so that's an obvious race to come back here for.”
Smullen is re-writing the Galway Festival history books himself, and his tally of ten winners so far this week is a record for the meeting.
