O'Brien just one behind in title bid
Joseph O'Brien has two appeals and a referral to face tomorrow but he moved to within one of Gary Carroll and Ben Curtis at the top of the apprentice table by getting Waydownsouth home by a head from Cul A Dun in the Stephen Quirke Memorial Apprentice Handicap at the Curragh.
Owned by the 64 member WJ Souths Racing Club, the successful son of Chevalier was following up a Fairyhouse win here and he is now three wins from his last four starts. On the other occasion he was second.
Pat Flynn trains the jumping prospect Waydownsouth and he was making-up for some beaten favourites from his Waterford yard in recent days (Galiana and Mister Music Man).
Meanwhile O'Brien currently has six days of suspension facing him so the outcome of tomorrow's deliberations at the Turf Club will be crucial to his title bid.
