O'Brien shines on Claire
Joseph O'Brien got a nice split up the rail to score aboard Leah Claire in the second divison of the Red Mills Handicap at Roscommon. Takasima made a bold bid from the front in the mile-and-a-half contest but had to concede defeat inside the final furlong.
Leah Claire worked her way to the front inside the final 100 yards and kept on well to score by half a length. Miranda's Girl finished best to grab second.
Trainer Matthieu Palussiere was recording his first victory since the same mare scored at Leopardstown last October.
"She keeps finding something and I don't know how long she can do it for," said Palussiere.
"She's a little mare that tries very hard and I'm delighted for owner Frank McNulty, who gets great pleasure out of her. He also owned the dam, who won here as well.
"She's entered at Cork on Friday and we'll see how she comes out of this."
