Cavallo Pazzo continued his progression when opening his account in the opening sprint maiden at Naas this afternoon.

The Eoin Doyle-trained gelding had just been held by a head at Navan on his last start and went one better today, over just shy of six furlongs.

Dylan Browne McMonagle tracked the front-running Shining Crystal before sending the 5/2 favourite to the front two furlongs from home.

The Starspangledbanner gelding kept on well in the closing stages to record a length-and-a-quarter win over the staying on Diamondsinthesand

“It's only his third real run as he ran early on in the year and the ground was too fast for him,” said Doyle.

“He missed the kick in Tipperary and then over the five furlongs in Down Royal he was taken off his head early on.

“He came home well the last day in Navan and we thought these conditions would suit him and it was nearly six today.

“We said we'd send him forward earlier. Dylan said he was just idling a bit going to the line but he had plenty in hand.

“He's a nice horse, he has plenty of ability, and he's learning everyday. He's still a bit green and should come forward again next year.

“He's a big horse and has to fill his frame, I think he'll be a lot stronger next year. He's coming forward everyday and it's great to get a win out of him before the seasons ended.”
