Rome lands Whip in good style
King Of Rome ran out a convincing winner of the Royal Whip Stakes and could find himself added to a powerful Ballydoyle team for the Irish Champion Stakes.
Johnny Murtagh slipped into the lead under two furlongs out on the Montjeu colt and he stretched clear in the closing stages for a three-and-a-half length victory.
"We've always thought a lot of him and he's really coming now," said Aidan O'Brien. "He's a classy horse and 1m2f is fine for him at the moment."
Third placed Zulu Chief also showed promise on his step up to Group company and O'Brien commented: "The other lad is a big baby but he ran a lovely race."
