Shady Pines foils the gambles
Shady Pines was the comprehensive victor of the two mile maiden hurdle at Sligo under Tom Doyle as a couple of gambles went astray.
The five-year-old mare took up the running from Enough Is Enough three out and cantered clear for an 11 length success at 8/1 ahead of Down Under and Fahamore
Trainer James Halpin explained the victory. He said: "I was very concerned about the ground but she handled it no bother.
"She got daylight today whereas the last day she didn't and that cost her the race.
"I might run her in a couple of flat races as she has the speed for one mile six furlongs." Whisky Galore came home fourth after being heavily supported on course from 12/1 to 9/2 while Enough Is Enough who was backed at 50/1 in the morning faded to finish last at 12/1.
