Strange gets best of Encounter with Brookville
Strange Encounter seems to be around for a long time, though he's still only seven (won a 4yo maiden point-to-point at Rockfield back in November 2008) and he gained his second racecourse success by landing the 2012 Membership "The Ideal Xmas Present" Handicap Hurdle at Navan.
Philip Fenton 's charge, with Brian O’Connell up, got the better of a good tussle with the mare, Brookville carrying cheek-pieces for the first time. Half a length separated the pair at the line. They left the Francis Flood-trained duo, Too Late To Sell and Tornant four and a half lengths and eight lengths behind.
Fenton said: "He'll have another crack at one of those. He could go novice chasing in the spring when some of the better horses are gone.
"He deserved a bit of luck (slipped up last time).
Meanwhile Fenton has no trouble with the current inclement weather. His Last Instalment is Leopardstown bound and he said: "He is in good form and I'm glad to hear the rain is still coming down at Leopardstown." (AM & EM)
