Wayne Lordan picked up a winning spare ride in the Golf At Gowran Park Handicap as he partnered The Fog Horn to a comfortable success.

Getting in as first reserve, the Elzaam bay was originally due to be partnered by Sean Bowen.

The young apprentice had a winner at Leicester yesterday and travel difficulties resulted in him missing what would have been his third winner in-a-row.

Beaten by just a short head at Fairyhouse earlier this month, The Fog Horn was sent off at 12/1 in the colours of owner/breeder/trainer Seamus O'Donnell.

Settled behind the leaders on the inner, she was pushed along to challenge from early in the straight and hit the front with a furlong left to race, stretching clear from there to score by three lengths.

The Eddie Lynam trained Gosford (25/1) ran an eye-catching race to take second, while Master Garvey (6/1) was a further length-and-three-parts back in third.

Returned the well-backed 9/2 favourite (from 20s early), Monitola faded in the closing stages after attempting to make all and he eventually finished fifth.

"She had a great run the last day. Wayne stepped in for the ride and he was great on her. We'll have a look now at the programme to see where we go," O'Donnell commented.
