Review leopardstown 8th Apr

Aidan O'Brien secured a big double at Leopardstown when Hydrangea made virtually all in the Ballylinch Stud 1000 Guineas Trial Stakes.

Padraig Beggy always had the 5-1 chance near the head of affairs and though stablemate Winter closed in the final furlong, Hydrangea kept up the gallop to score by a head.

O'Brien also struck when Orderofthegarter ran out an impressive winner of the Listed Leopardstown 2000 Guineas Trial.

Sent straight to the front by Seamie Heffernan, the 5-4 favourite sprinted clear just after the home turn and was just kept to his work to hold stablemate Taj Mahal who came from off the pace, three and three-quarter lengths at bay.

Joseph O'Brien denied his father in the P. W. McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes as Rekindling (16-1) landed the Grade Three contest under Wayne Lordan.

The former David Wachman-trained colt squeezed through a gap on the rail to edge ahead of Aidan's Douglas Macarthur before keeping on well to beat that rival by half a length.

Aidan O'Brien's more fancied runners, Yucatan and Capri finished third and fourth respectively.

Irishcorrespondent ran out an authoritative winner of the Leopardstown Summer Bundle Maiden.

Michael Halford's colt was sent off a 6-1 chance on his debut and after being held up in the early stages by Shane Foley, he showed a smart turn of foot to sweep past Music Box in the final furlong and score by three and a half lengths.

Foley made it a double when getting David Marnane's Settle For Bay (16-1) up on the line to deny Gino Severini in the Leopardstown Family Raceday Handicap.

Foley's treble bid in the Bulmers Live At Leopardstown Handicap was foiled as his mount Hyperdrive couldn't reel in Patrick Martin's Steelyeyed (16-1) under Gary Halpin.

However, that was only a minor blip for Foley as he added his third win of the day aboard Halford's Katiyman (3-1 favourite) in the concluding Leopardstown Summer Membership Handicap.
