Dysios too much like Work for Time
Paul Carberry's first ride back from injury, Time To Work didn't jump well and produced a fairly laboured effort up the straight in the opening Kilberry Maiden Hurdle at Navan leaving the way open for the Tom Doyle-ridden Dysios to score for Denis Cullen. Sat 03rd Mar
I'm delighted with him. It was his first time over two-and-a-half so it was a bit of a fact finding mission,. It opens up more opportunities for us over fences as well. This year he's been in particularly good form with himself and he's been training very well. He's 119 over hurdles and ran a lovely race in Listowel the last day. Kieron (winning owner Kieron Gammell) is originally from Greystones so hopefully we can get back to Leopardstown. He's won there twice already and has been second this year so that's his Gold Cup. If we can get back there at Christmas in good shape it will be the icing on the cake. We'll do a bit of pot hunting with him. He has a bit of age on his side now. We stripped a bit of weight off him which is better for him as well. We'll mix it now. I was happier to go back hurdling this year after chasing. Sometimes if you mix it too much in their first season they are going down to hurdles and jumping them too big and deliberate. I wanted to get a season chasing before I went back mixing it over hurdles. I said I'd give him the season chasing and then we could mix and match. He could pop up in a couple of those conditions races. He's a big strong horse but I wouldn't like to be giving away a lot of weight in handicaps. All his best form has been on soft or heavy ground so he handles that ground. I'm delighted - it's not easy to get winners.

We are absolutely over the moon. He's a horse we always thought a lot of. We were delighted to get Barry Geraghty on board. He travelled great and he jumped well. I thought he had a good chance, but I would have preferred to have run him on Thursday's ground as I thought it was better. Barry says he probably doesn't want it as heavy as that. He might get an entry in the Pierse Hurdle [Boylesports.com Hurdle]. Ideally we want to go chasing with him later. He schooled over fences and jumps well. We just have to bite the bullet at some stage and decide to go over the bigger ones. I think he'll make a smashing chaser in time.

I thought he'd need the run today (his first in almost a year) but he broke well, travelled well though in the end Joseph felt that he got there a bit sooner than he wanted. We've always thought a lot of him . he's a nice horse with a big future. We decided to give him a good long break and hopefully he can go now for some graded races over hurdles as well as running on the flat.
Denis W Cullen
That's a first winner for the yard since Michael (O'Brien, father-in-law & former trainer) passed away and it means a lot. We'll probably aim this horse at Punchestown and he'll mix it between this game and the flat. (AM & EM)
